How to Use Mounjaro Kwikpen: A Detailed Guideline

Eli Lilly and Company declared that all dosages of Mounjaro KwikPen (tirzepatide) are now accessible in India. Mounjaro KwikPen, a prescription-based, once-weekly treatment that has been approved by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), provides patients with a convenient way to take their medication. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors are both dual agonists of mounjaro.
The Mounjaro KwikPen is a prefilled pen that can be used by a single patient for several doses. Four fixed doses, given once a week, are contained in each pen. Healthcare providers will be able modify treatment plans to better meet the needs of each patient due to the pen's six dosing strengths: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg.

How to Administer Mounjaro Kwikpen:

Your Mounjaro Kwikpen is brought to you as a pre-filled pen, so you don't have to use the syringe or measure out your doses yourself. It is administered as an injection once a week; in order to establish a routine and lower the chance of skipping a dose, we advise taking each dose at the same time of day.

Here is a detailed guide on how to administer your injections:

1.     Examine your pen:

Before using, keep unopened pens in the refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C. Your pen can be kept for up to 30 days at room temperature (up to 30°C) once it has been opened. Examine your pen for the following items before beginning your injection:

·       Your prescription should be followed regarding the medication's name and dosage.

·       There should have been no expiration date.

·       The medication should have a clear or faintly golden color.

Don't use your medication if it is hazy, discolored, frozen, or includes any particles. 

2.     Wash your hands:

To avoid infection, you should give your injection using clean hands. Use soap and hot water to wash your hands, then clean them with a fresh towel. The person giving you your medication should wash their hands as well. 

3.     Choose the injection site:

Since Mounjaro is a subcutaneous injection, it is administered directly into the adipose tissue layer beneath your skin. One of the following places should be your choice for an injection site:

·       Your abdomen should be at least two inches away from the belly. Steer clear of scar tissue.

·       Your upper arm's back. You might require assistance.

·       Your thigh's side or front. To lower the chance of hard lumps, choose a place that is different from where you took your last dose. 

4.     Get your injection pen ready:

Take off the pen cap and use an alcohol swab to clean the inside seal. Remove the paper tab from the outside needle shield of your brand-new capped pen needle. After that, insert the pen needle into your pen and twist to secure it firmly. Remove the outer needle shield and set it aside for later use. Remove and discard the inner needle shield. Prior to usage, each pen must be primed. The prime position is reached by turning the dose knob until you hear two clicks and see a long line in the dose display. To transfer any air bubbles to the top of the pen, hold your pen needle up and lightly tape the cartridge. To discharge some medication and the air bubbles, gently turn the dosing knob. Holding the dosing knob, slowly count to five until it stops. You can now take your dose as usual. 

5.     Administer the medicine:

To see the number 1 in the dose display, turn the dose knob until it stops. To inject the medication, insert the needle into your skin and turn the dosing knob. Slowly count to five while holding down the dose knob until the dose window displays the 0 icon. After that, you can carefully remove the needle. There might be a tiny bit of blood at the injection site; simply press down with sterile gauze or a cotton ball until it stops. 

6.     Securely dispose of the needle:

To properly dispose of the needle, replace the outer needle shield with caution. Twist the used needle off the end of your pen and dispose of it in a sharps container after it has been capped. Reinstall your pen's cap and keep it out of direct sunlight. As long as the needle is out of the pen, you can throw it in your household trash if you've taken your last dose.
