Mechanism of action:

Meropenem inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This action interferes with the cross-linking of peptidoglycan layers, weakening the cell wall structure. As the cell wall integrity is compromised, the bacterial cell becomes susceptible to osmotic pressure changes, leading to cell lysis and death. Storage:

How to use this Medication?

Every 8 hours, meropenem is administered intravenously; the duration of treatment is determined by your infection and reaction. Your doctor may decide to switch you to an oral antibiotic to finish the course of treatment once your condition has improved.

During the first several days of meropenem injection treatment, you should start to feel better. Contact your physician if your symptoms worsen or do not go away.

Even if you feel better, continue using the meropenem injection until the entire prescription is finished. Your infection might not be fully treated and the bacteria might develop antibiotic resistance if you stop taking meropenem injections too soon or miss doses.
