Mechanism of Action:
Enzalutamide inhibits the androgen receptor. It inhibits the development and spread of prostate cancer cells by preventing the activity of androgens, such testosterone, at the receptor level.

Dosage and Administration:

Contraindications/Warnings:
Enzalutamide carries a boxed warning for seizures it lowers the seizure threshold, and caution or avoidance is advised in patients with predisposing factors such as brain metastases, prior stroke, brain trauma, a history of seizures, alcoholism, or concurrent medications that lower the seizure threshold. Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) has also been reported. Other important risks include an increased incidence of ischemic heart disease and cardiac events, falls and fractures (particularly in elderly patients), and hepatotoxicity. Because this drug is intended for use in men, but can be present in semen, condom use is advised during and after treatment if the patient's partner is or may become pregnant. Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to enzalutamide; women who are or may become pregnant should not handle the capsules without protective gloves.
