Composition: Posaconazole

Mechanism of Action:

As an antifungal medication, posaconazole functions by blocking the enzyme lanosterol 14α-demethylase, which is essential for the production of ergosterol, a major constituent of the fungal cell membrane. Posaconazole damages the integrity of the cell membrane by preventing the synthesis of ergosterol, which results in cell death and stops the growth of fungi.

Uses:

• Prevention of invasive fungal infections caused by Aspergillus and Candida in patients with weakened immune systems.
• Treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis.

How to use this Medication?

The Posaconazole tablets are usually taken with or without food twice daily on the first day and then once a day. Take posaconazole exactly as prescribed, at the same times daily, and follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.

Do not break, chew, or crush the posaconazole delayed-release pills; instead, swallow them whole. Inform your doctor if you find it difficult to take the delayed-release tablets whole.
