Prostacel 500 mcg Injection contains Alprostadil, a vasodilator that increases blood flow and relaxes smooth muscle.

Composition: Alprostadil

Mechanism of Action:

A synthetic prostaglandin E1 called alprostadil (Prostacel) raises intracellular cAMP and activates adenylate cyclase. Smooth muscle and vascular tissue relax as a result. Consequently, it improves blood flow, which can improve penile arterial inflow in erectile dysfunction or preserve ductus arteriosus patency in newborns.

Uses:

·       Erectile Dysfunction (ED).

·       Treatment for certain congenital cardiac defects in infants.

Dosage and Administration:

The patient (adult vs. neonate) and indication are the only factors that affect the route and dosage. Injections for ED are usually administered under medical supervision and with careful dosage into the corpus cavernosum, or penis.
