Themiset Injection 5 ml contains Palonosetron is an antiemetic drug used to stop nausea and vomiting brought on by radiation, chemotherapy, or surgery. Palonosetron is frequently used in supportive care for cancer patients and is a member of the class of selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonists. Composition: Palonosetron Hydrochloride

Mechanism of Action:A specific antagonist of the 5-hydroxytryptamine-3 (5-HT3) receptor is palonosetron. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause the small intestine's enterochromaffin cells to produce serotonin, which activates 5-HT3 receptors and causes nausea and vomiting. Palonosetron prevents chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) by blocking serotonin binding at these receptors, which are found both peripherally in the gastrointestinal tract and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ).
