Fondared 7.5mg Injection

Fondared 7.5mg Injection is an anticoagulant medication that contains Fondaparinux, a synthetic pentasaccharide.

Composition: Fondaparinux 7.5mg

Mechanism of Action:

Fondaparinux functions by blocking the production of Factor Xa, a protein that contributes to the formation of blood clots. It increases its ability to inactivate Factor Xa by attaching itself to antithrombin III. This mode of action stops prothrombin from being converted to thrombin, which is an essential step in the formation of blood clots. By taking this measure, existing clots are prevented from spreading and new clots are prevented from forming.

Uses:

• Deep vein thrombosis
• Pulmonary embolism

Dosage and Administration:

The injection is administered subcutaneously (under the skin), typically in the lower abdominal area. Depending on the clinical situation, it can also be administered intravenously. The patient's weight, age, and condition all affect the dosage. For the treatment of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, the 7.5mg strength is the standard once-daily dose for patients weighing 50-100 kg (5mg is used below 50 kg, and 10mg above 100 kg). Typically, it is given once day.

Contraindications/Warnings:

Fondared is contraindicated in patients with active major bleeding, severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance below 30 mL/min), bacterial endocarditis, and thrombocytopenia associated with a positive antibody test in the presence of fondaparinux. Spinal or epidural hematomas, which can cause long-term or permanent paralysis, have occurred in patients receiving fondaparinux who undergo spinal/epidural anesthesia or puncture. It should be used with caution in patients at increased risk of bleeding, including those on other anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents.

Storage:

Fondared should be kept in the refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C (36°F and 46°F). The formulation may be harmed by freezing, so avoid doing so.

How to use this Medication?

This particular strength (7.5mg) is generally used for the treatment of an existing deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, given once daily by subcutaneous injection into the abdomen, for the duration your doctor prescribes. A lower 2.5mg strength (not this product) is instead used starting 6 to 8 hours after surgery, once daily, for the prevention of blood clots. Carefully follow your doctor's directions and use it daily at the same time. 

There is enough medicine in each syringe to last one shot. Never use the needle and syringe more than once. You will receive instructions on how to properly dispose of used needles and syringes from your physician, pharmacist, or other healthcare practitioner.

Fondaparinux injection should not be used with other drugs or solutions.
